The BMW Shorties Strikes Gold at MEA 2019

In its maiden awards foray, VoxEureka bagged the Gold Award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign of the Year at Marketing Magazine’s Marketing Excellence Awards 2019 with its entry for The BMW Shorties, Malaysia’s most prestigious short-film-making competition.

This marked the first-ever award for the agency, only in its second year of operations, against much bigger and more established agencies and in-house teams.

The BMW Shorties, on the other hand, is no stranger to the industry and has won multiple awards both locally and regionally. The challenge for the platform – which is now running for the 14th year – is the creative means to keep it fresh and relevant without losing its core identity.

Following the first-ever BMW Shorties Festival back in 2016, the platform continued expanding its horizons. In 2019, The BMW Shorties entered a collaboration with Urbanscapes, catapulting its visibility to new film-makers and digital content creators alike.  The results were phenomenal, setting a record of 130 entry submissions.

‘PACE’, a short film by East Malaysian director, Ekin Kee Charles, won the Grand Prize – an RM80,000 film-making grant.

Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia had this to say:

This year’s unconventional theme managed to gather some of Malaysia’s finest filmmakers and content creators we have ever seen. With the vast amount of submissions received this year, it is truly refreshing to see local creators demonstrate such passion and tenacity in visualising their interpretations of ‘UNCHARTED’, and as such, we are more than proud to continue driving this creative force time and time again.
