Celebrating everyday Can-Do heroes who lift Malaysians through a pandemic
In 2020, HSBC identified a significant gap in financial literacy among Malaysians. According to Bank Negara Malaysia, one in three Malaysians lacked confidence in their financial knowledge. Additionally, 52% reported difficulties in raising RM1,000 for emergencies. This highlighted the need for accessible financial education to empower individuals and communities.
HSBC launched the WeCanWeDo campaign, translating its global brand belief, “Together We Thrive,” into a local rallying cry: “We Can We Do.” The initiative aimed to inspire Malaysians to take action towards financial empowerment.
Key initiatives included:
HSBC Pledge: A platform recognising Malaysians who exemplified the Can-Do spirit. Notably, the campaign spotlighted Dale Adelric Teri, a Paralympian turned self-made entrepreneur, celebrating his remarkable journey.
HSBC FUN-nancial Guide: In partnership with Teach For Malaysia, HSBC developed a five-module financial literacy toolkit aimed at children. The toolkit was illustrated by 12- and 13-year-old brothers Sheldon and Emerson Chong, showcasing that the Can-Do spirit knows no age.
Webinar on Financial Literacy: HSBC hosted a webinar titled “Raising Financially-Savvy Children,” featuring a panel of financial literacy advocates from HSBC and Teach For Malaysia, alongside guest speakers from Parenthood Malaysia, celebrity parents Aishah Sinclair and Shahnaz Karim, and representatives from the Financial Education Network (FEN).
